Every second Wednesday afternoon I know that I am going to ukulele strum with Lauren Mann and my heart skips a beat or two! I love the freedom and friendship that we have together, singing and strumming our hearts out. When I come home after ukulele band my heart is full, I feel about 10 years old and I keep singing all evening much to my husband’s despair! Actually he said the other day that he would like to join the ukulele band! It’s a powerful and wonderful program and I am very grateful that Ptarmigan has allowed the program to flourish on Pender.

The artists that Ptarmigan has been able to provide have been invaluable, and are a massive motivator to influencing participation. The arts have become an indispensable part of us achieving our outcomes, namely to create environments of inclusiveness, alleviate isolation, and reduce stress, anxiety and depression in our most vulnerable populations.

In sharing our wealth of artistic knowledge and abilities between our communities, [Ptarmigan is] taking a profound and empowering step toward strengthening the presence and vitality of the arts in the Gulf Islands.

The participants were engaged, enjoyed their experience and learned a great deal. Most impressive was the ability of staff to engage some very hard to reach children. I would recommend their programming/workshops to any organization working with children and youth.

Steve / Resource and Recreation Coordinator, Canadian Mental Health Association

I have had an excellent time facilitating Acting programs through this organization. Their passion for the people and artists of Pender Island is inspiring. I love the opportunity to be able to share my artistry with this community, and Ptarmigan is at the forefront of what is happening on these gulf islands.

Lauren’s teaching materials were very well selected...I was very impressed with Lauren’s ability to teach to a group with a wide range of age and musical skill. She did well in drawing out the younger participants and creating an environment in which everyone felt  comfortable sharing their efforts. Thanks to you and Ptarmigan for organizing this [songwriting intensive].
