GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Ptarmigan Arts is looking for a part- time contract Gallery Curator to overseeinstallation of art in Ptarmigan’s new art gallery and be responsible for the overallaesthetic of the gallery.

QUALIFICATIONS

An educational background in the arts, at least 5 years’ experience working in an artgallery environment and a knowledge of current art forms and art markets is essential. The Curator must possess excellent management, research, and writing skills, as well as a well trained eye and a passion for staging art work. The successful candidate will have a good rapport with people and good relationships in the community. A degree of flexibility relating to hours worked, and enthusiasm forand commitment to Ptarmigan’s aims are essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Working with Ptarmigan’s Program Manager, the Curator will:

  • select and install art work for display in the gallery;

  • develop, plan and execute art exhibitions, including regular rotations of art

    work;

  • compiling written content (e.g. labels, interpretive material) to support the

    art works, and/or the artists;

  • assist the Project Manager in creating a visually appealing binder of artist

    profiles for use in supporting and promoting local artists;

  • assist the Project Manager in developing and overseeing arts programs using

    gallery or nearby studio space, such as educational workshops or makers

    space gatherings, in times when the gallery is not open;

  • establish and maintain good working relationships with artists and others in the community to help achieve Ptarmigan’s goals and help to build the profileof Ptarmigan in the community.

COMPENSATION

$750/month contract fee, which represents 30 hours at $25/hr. Hours worked/ month subject to change.
