Join Juno Award winning guitarist Lester Quitzau for a second afternoon workshop about improvisation and jam technique. You'll have the opportunity to learn from one of the best and practice improvising in music and the art of listening and being in the moment. This will be a hands on workshop so bring your creativity and instrument(s).

Whether you're into ballet, hip hop, or just rocking out in your living room, this class is geared toward improving rhythm and balance as well as encouraging unique and creative dance styles.

Taught by Barbara Stowe who has a wealth of experience in dance, theatre, and teaching, and who is passionate about seeing the youth connect with their inner artist! Aimed at youth aged 11 and up of all experience levels. No dance experience necessary, just a desire to move!

Singing for Fun, Singing for Joy

Join Mary Reher, accredited music therapist, in this specialized singing program that facilitates community, healing, and the arts. Mary fosters a low stress, safe environment where anyone can feel comfortable to sing and explore their voice and discover the joy that comes from singing in community! With a great repertoire of songs, you’ll explore unison, rounds, harmonies, songs for the spirit, folk songs, old songs, and chants. Registration deadline is February 5. Our beginner ballet program is back, with an added adult class! Join Lauren Mann (our program coordinator) who has ten years of ballet experience as you learn the basics of ballet technique with barre and centre work as well as some choreography! Registration deadline is February 7.

Filmmaking workshops

It’s that time of year when we start gearing up for our annual Pender Island Short Film Festival (happening April 20, 2019!). To start the season off, we’re bringing in some guest mentors who are experts in their field to lead two workshops on February 16 & 17. The first workshop will cover documentary, live performance, and reality filmmaking with Paul Donnett and Patrick Brown. The second workshop will cover dramatic narrative, animation, and experimental visual filmmaking with Paul Donnett and Matisse Weyler Hubert. Hosted by our very own David Ohnona, these workshops are aimed at youth and adults alike and will help you take your filmmaking skills to the next level.

Sabrina Werbowski is back with another music theory course, tailor-made to help you advance in your music theory skills. Sabrina has a passion for theory and teaches it in a fun and engaging way for all ages and musical abilities, whether you’re new to music or have been playing for years.

Calling ukulele players of all ages and abilities! We meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of each month at The Kraken Theatre at Hope Bay! Come out from 4-5pm to sing and play with others. It's a low key environment, fun for anyone from beginner to advanced.

Bring your uke, a binder for music, and $5 to cover photocopies and the venue cost. Oh, and why not bring a friend to share in the fun?!
